





As a result of the magnetic properties of videotape, over time the magnetic properties become weaker, and become slowly demagnetized, with the resulting loss of picture and sound quality. At some point they will no longer be viewable. Also, if the tapes are stored, especially unused, for extended periods of time, the magnetic properties print through (transfer) from one layer of tape to another, resulting in the transfer of the "image" from one layer onto the next.
